Hydrocarbons are molecules made of hydrogen and carbon atoms. The greatest use for hydrocarbons are fuel and combustion. Hydrocarbons give off energy when they are burned. Examples of hydrocarbons are methane, ethane, propane, and butane. Propane is often used in gas grills, fuel for vehicles, and heating. Butane is often found in lighters.
